Abstract

[Theme] Cryptographic Runtime Enforcement Boundary (Control Plane Primitive)

Theme Name

Cryptographic Runtime Enforcement Boundary (Control Plane Primitive)

Proposer(s)

Matias Salgado, Independent / Solutions Architect (matias.cloudarch@gmail.com)

Summary

This theme focuses on standardizing a fail-closed execution primitive (Integrity Gate) that physically decouples an AI agent's stochastic reasoning from backend execution authority. It ensures that no API transaction occurs without a deterministic evaluation of the agent's intent against immutable business rules, sealed by a cryptographic attestation token (e.g., PASETO v4). This is critical to prevent semantic drift and unauthorized financial or operational commitments by autonomous agents.

Scope / Open Questions

  • What are the required architectural boundaries to physically separate reasoning environments (LLMs) from execution privileges?
  • How do we standardize deterministic decision envelopes to guarantee fail-closed behavior before interacting with corporate APIs?
  • How can we cryptographically bind the agent's contextual intent to a specific hashed version of a business policy to create tamper-evident forensic receipts?
  • How do we operationalize mitigations for OWASP LLM08 (Excessive Agency) at the infrastructure level?
  • OWASP LLM Top 10 (v1.1) - LLM08: Excessive Agency (Separation of privileges requirement).
  • EU AI Act (Article 11) & NIST AI RMF: Requirements for reconstructible audit trails and deterministic governance in high-risk AI systems.
  • IETF RATS (Remote ATtestation procedureS): Foundational architecture for the cryptographic receipts.
  • Extends Theme 6 (Intent-based Security Policies & Runtime Verification): Provides the physical enforcement primitive for the verdict states (permit, block, remediate) discussed in Theme 6.
  • Complements Theme 8 (Remote Attestation for Agentic AI): Consumes the assertion provenance established in Theme 8 to validate tokens and generate forensic SHA-256 ledgers upon execution.
